Do not get confused by the title of this article, because the drink I am about to tell you about has nothing to do with milk and other dairy products, not even those made from plants. Green milk is extremely easy to prepare, and every morning it gives me a real boost, effectively replacing coffee. The key ingredient is green barley, a real bomb of vitamins and minerals!
Green barley, what’s that?
If you don’t know green barley yet, it’s useful to be aware of two things – it has a nice green color and a particular smell and taste. Young barley is available in several forms: juice powder, tablets and ground barley grass, and its color is a result of its very high chlorophyll content.
It has become a very popular supplement lately and one could easily think that it is another well-marketed and not a very reliable product. But quite the contrary! Barley has been known for thousands of years for its excellent nutritional properties. In ancient Rome, gladiators used it in their diet to strengthen the body and give themselves stamina.
The finest is dried in powder form from young barley leaves about seven days old. It is dried very quickly and at low temperature to avoid oxidation of valuable vitamins and other active substances. The powder components are almost 100% assimilable by the human body. Moreover, it is not genetically modified and is grown in areas of organic agriculture.
Green barley is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. It contains the B vitamins, antioxidants – both vitamins C and E – as well as beta-carotene, iron, calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Moreover, as I have already mentioned, it is rich in chlorophyll, known for its valuable properties, such as:
- helps to treat the anemia
- neutralizes toxins (and improves their elimination from the body)
- supports renal function and the thyroid gland.
- strengthens blood vessels
- accelerates healing and stimulates the immune system
Barley is also rich in amino acids and fibers and has weight-loss properties. Regular consumption of this green powder will help you not only to reduce deficiencies but also to take care of your body’s acid-base balance. Young barley has a strong detoxifying effect, helps eliminate free radicals, cleanses the body of toxins and metals, and supports liver and kidney function. Systematic consumption also ensures the proper functioning of the immune system, which is why it is recommended to consume it even in winter. It is also a rich source of selenium, known for its beneficial effect on the condition of the skin, making it more supple and protected from the harmful effects of various external factors: UV rays, air pollution, smog, and cold.
Although its smell and taste may discourage, the benefits compensate for all the suffering. In addition, the preparation of green milk is a piece of cake, we need of course young barley powder and water. Dissolve 2 teaspoons of barley in 150 ml of cold water and drink once a day, preferably on an empty stomach. One teaspoon of green barley is the equivalent of 2 kg of fresh fruits or vegetables. Barley can also be a substitute for a few cups of coffee. It has an invigorating effect that lasts several hours.
It may also be added to juices or fruit cocktails. However, remember not to add it to hot dishes, as it can lose its valuable properties.
Well, here’s to you!
