Say NO to toxic Antiperspirants

In my daily skincare routine, the right protection against sweating is my top priority. For many years I was testing different Antiperspirants – some more some less effective without paying attention to their composition. If a product kept me dry and fresh even in most stressful situations or during sports, I’d probably rebuy it.

Since I’ve started to choose the cosmetics more wisely and analyze their composition, I found out that it’s really hard to find an antiperspirant that is infallible and the same time more on a natural side.

Toxic compounds under control

The list of toxic substances contained in antiperspirants is quite long. They can cause various types of disorders and diseases, from hormonal imbalance to breast cancer or Alzheimer’s disease.

Here are just a few of them:

Triclosan – occurs in many products such as toothpaste, soaps, textiles or cutting boards. It can affect hormonal balance and is often linked to breast cancer

Phthalates can occur in PVC flooring. They can cause allergy and asthma in children. They also have a contribution to the infertility of young women.

Parabens -synthetic preservatives that occur not only in cosmetics but also in the food. They can accumulate in the nipple tissue and lead to the development of breast cancer.

Aluminium – There have been many discussions about this compound. Aluminium salts are used as the active antiperspirant agent in underarm cosmetics. It supposed to clog pores to stop perspiration (sweat) with no odour. It’s effective but dangerous! A research has shown that excessive accumulation of aluminium in the body increases the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. But it doesn’t end up on that…. Aluminum can increase the mass of the brain and influence the development of diseases of the central nervous system. There is an evidence that aluminium can contribute to breast cancer development.

Synthetic fragrances – can cause various allergies and skin irritations.

Drugstore antiperspirants contain as well alcohol. They shouldn’t be used of freshly depilated skin, personally,  I cried and screamed so many times because of it!

I highly recommend you checking the compounds of your antiperspirant! You may be surprised at the amount of the chemicals!

Nontoxic alternative

The discovery of the French brand Clémence& Vivien literally changed my life! They offer natural, vegan and non-animal tested cosmetics. In addition, most of the ingredients come from organic farming.

The brand offers mainly hand-made soaps and Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Creams.

They are packed in a solid glass (!) jars of 50 ml. And you won’t find among the compound any aluminium salts or alcohol but instead, there are essential oils, karité butter, cornstarch, sage or vitamin E.

How to use antiperspirant in cream? Just like every other cream, we take a small amount of it and massage it carefully into the skin so that there are no lumps, a piece of cake! And it smells incredible!

At the first application I was a bit scared how effective it’s gonna be and so I was obsessively checking my armpits, making sure there is no odour that could kill someone next by. Surprisingly it passed the first test with an A! Unlike drugstore and chemical antiperspirants, it can give you the feeling of “a thing going on” under your armpits but don’t worry it eliminates all the odour and there are no wet spots.

Now I’m only curious about how long it’s gonna last, but since I’ve opened it two weeks ago the use is minimal.

However, you should finish it up to 12 months after opening.

I couldn’t be happier, I found a perfect, reliable and one hundred percent natural Antiperspirant. So, what do you think? Did I convince you to try Clémence & Vivien products?
